Instructions

[edit]

Instructions:

  1. Find an entry on the list on this page (or a list on a subpage).
  2. Look at the text under it to see whether the repeated word is intentional. Intentionally repeated words on this list are called false positives. See below for examples.
  3. If it is a false positive, put a strikethrough through the article entry on this list. Outside the strikethrough, write out why it is a false positive if it is non-obvious.
  4. If it is not a false positive, go to the page and correct the problem then delete it from this list. If the problem is no longer on that page, delete it from this list anyway.

A false positive:

  • Hot_100_No._1_Hits_of_1983_(USA)
    | [[December 10]] || Say Say Say || [[Paul McCart
    | [[December 17]] || Say Say Say || Paul McCartne
    | [[December 24]] || Say Say Say || Paul McCartne
    | [[December 31]] || Say Say Say || Paul McCartne

A genuine problem:

Date

[edit]

I used the dump from 7th Jan (the latest as of 00:47, 7 Feb 2005 (UTC); see [1]) and checked the results against the current entries (using Special:Export) to see that they were all still there. (Those that had been fixed were removed before posting.) Mistakes introduced after 7th Jan are not listed.

Summarising the above:

  • All the mistakes that were listed here were in Wikipedia as of 7th Feb.
  • Almost all the mistakes currently listed here are still uncorrected
  • Mistakes made after 7th Jan were not detected

Contributors and gmail scheme

[edit]

Contributors list:

  1. r3m0t made this on their own computer. (I'de like 20 Gmail addresses, please! ;) )
  2. User:Pcxbjh never added himself/herself to the list.
  3. Plop (Thanks, but no thanks. I already have Gmail. :) )
  4. Bart133
  5. Muntfish
  6. Rje (didn't want gmail address)
  7. Katefan0 (Hey thanks! I have a Gmail addy, though I appreciate the offer!)
  8. Woohookitty (already have a gmail addy, thanks)

Contributors get up to 3 gmail addresses each if they contribute. I know that these are dirt cheap now and available on Wikipedia for no work, but that's no fun. No sockpuppeteering! ;) Make sure you are accepting user e-mails from the left link "E-mail this user" (on your user page). This means having an email entered in Special:Preferences under "User data" and having "Disable e-mail from other users" unticked. r3m0t 22:09, 9 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Source code

[edit]

Source code is available on the talk page. I made two PHP scripts: one to query and format the results, and one to check the mistakes were still in the live wikipedia using Special:Export. The script produces human-readable results (used here) and computer-readable results (not online). The scripts are GPL.
