The result of the move request was: moved as request. No objection if movie projector is subsequently moved to film projector. -- JHunterJ (talk) 13:54, 18 February 2014 (UTC)
Film projector → Film projector (disambiguation) – The motion picture version is the primary topic of film, so it makes sense that the primary topic of Film projector would be Movie projector. Frankly, I have never heard of a slide projector being called a "film projector" at all. I would either move this disambiguation page and redirect "Film projector" to "Movie projector", or turn this page into a redirect without preserving the disambiguation page, and have a hatnote at "Movie projector" pointing to Slide projector. bd2412 T 03:01, 3 February 2014 (UTC)
- Support, or as second choice, redirect this page to projector, which is a more generic dab page that includes both of these. older ≠ wiser 13:44, 3 February 2014 (UTC)
- Support as proposed. Maybe a hatnote should be placed at movie projector for both the slide projector and projector. Red Slash 21:17, 3 February 2014 (UTC)
- "Frankly, I have never heard of a slide projector being called a "film projector" at all." I guess argumentum ad populum applies then. The MOS is film, not movie. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 10:52, 4 February 2014 (UTC)
- Fine, then. I did a Google image search for "film projector", and every single one of the thousands of images that Google returned was of a reel-to-reel moving film projector, i.e., a movie projector. Cheers! bd2412 T 13:13, 4 February 2014 (UTC)
- Comment. I don't think we should be using "movie projector" at all. We may also want to consider video projector in this discussion, and how that fits into the scheme of things. --Rob Sinden (talk) 11:17, 4 February 2014 (UTC)
- Move "movie projector" to "film projector" and add hatnote for "slide projector" per WP:2DAB, with an additional hatnote for "projector". --Rob Sinden (talk) 13:29, 4 February 2014 (UTC)
- Robsinden, Lugnuts, you may not know this but this is an WP:ENGVAR issue; the word "movie" is perfect American English and therefore isn't going to change, as per WP:RETAIN. See also Movie theater. Red Slash 22:58, 4 February 2014 (UTC)
- I guess we can't accommodate for people's ignorance then. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 07:13, 5 February 2014 (UTC)
- WP:WORLDVIEW. The correct term is film projector. --Rob Sinden (talk) 09:01, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

- Move Movie projector to film projector, per Rob. Lugnuts Dick Laurent is dead 07:14, 5 February 2014 (UTC)
- Support per nom. Movie projector is the primary meaning. -- Necrothesp (talk) 14:37, 5 February 2014 (UTC)
- Merge and redirect to Projector (a proper DAB page). Movie projectors & slide projectors are film projectors, and "film projector" is a simple description that is rarely used. I have never heard it used to name something, I guess its use would be in the context of focusing on film, generically. If you have a piece of film, and you want to project it, you need a film projector, either a movie projector or slide projector could be used. The two topics are so closely connected that each should link to the other, and a readers need for disambiguating is probably so broad that Projector would be much more likely to be helpful. DAB pages are good, but multitudes of finely divided DAB pages is not good. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 02:26, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
- What you are describing is a WP:DABCONCEPT - not a collection of unrelated, and therefore ambiguous concepts, but a broad topic encompassing various closely related subtopics. I am surprised, however, that you have never heard "film projector" as a descriptor. The term gets tens of thousands of Google Books hits, and hundreds of thousands of Google hits, mostly identifying movie projectors. bd2412 T 02:37, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
- "Film projector" is the common term for a movie projector in Britain, where the term "movie" is rarely used and "film" when used without a qualifier almost invariably refers to what Americans would commonly call a movie. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:22, 13 February 2014 (UTC)
- I guess that I am out of touch with the subject of film projectors. Or maybe I was thinking too hard of a slide projector. Yes, I am very familiar with movies being called films, a term which is becoming anachronistic with digital movie making.
bd2412, isn't "film projector" a bit narrow a topic to be called a "broad topic"? Isn't a "film projector" a narrow aspect of a "projector"? Also, I'm a bit confused as to whether or not we are in agreement. Are you disagreeing that Film projector (disambiguation) is so narrow and related a range of topics that clumsy search queries should better go to Projector (disambiguation), where Image projector serves the role as the DABCONCEPT page?
A problem with redirecting "film projector" to "Movie projector" is that it is not easy to find other projectors from Movie projector. The few who don't want Movie projector are likely to find getting out of there frustrating. Far better, I think, for frustrated searches to go to useful DAB pages. Despite your evidence of image usage, I find Leonard G.'s comment of 02:46, 20 June 2004 to be logical. --SmokeyJoe (talk) 05:40, 14 February 2014 (UTC)
- We can have a hatnote saying "Film projector redirects here; for other types of projectors, see Projector (disambiguation)". My WP:DABCONCEPT comment was not aimed at the term film projector so much as it was at the word "projector", for which it seems to me the primary topic is Image projector, since most of the terms on the disambig page relate to the projection of images, whether moving, enlarged, on a screen, on the walls, etc. bd2412 T 14:58, 14 February 2014 (UTC)
