Retrofitted Dampers

[edit]

User:Solipsist found this paper on the dampers retrofitted to the bridge. --Tagishsimon (talk) retrofitted dampers were fitted in and work completed in 2002, however i visited the bridge in 2009 and photographed evidence of missing bolts. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.183.140.22 (talk) 12:54, 15 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Redundant Image

[edit]

I think that second image of the bridge is redundant. It's basically the same one as the first image, except reversed and in color-- and that first image already been cited at a Wikipedia picture of the day. Any objections to removing the second image? TheCoffee 10:16, 27 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for being thoughtful and asking before you did anything. Yes, I would definitely object to its removal. If you click on each pic and read the info there, you will see that the colour pic is public domain but the black and white pic is copyrighted. Wikipedia dislikes copyrighted stuff so it would be crazy to remove a PD pic in favour of a copyrighted pic. In any case. any reader wanting to use a Millennium Bridge pic in homework or in a project would surely use the colour pic! - Adrian Pingstone
Actually, I think that if Wikipedia has a preference at all, it prefers copyrighted and appropriately licensed (preferably with the GFDL) pictures to ones in the public domain. The black and white image here is licensed with a Creative Common open licence, which is different to GFDL but with very similar objectives. However I do agree that the fact one picture is color and the other b&w is enough of a difference to retain both. -- Chris j wood 22:02, 27 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Image layout

[edit]

Well I agree that the previous image layout had become untidy, but I'm not sure the two column table works that well. I would suggest going with a largish version of Image:London_millenium_wobbly_bridge.jpg as the lead picture since it is a Featured Picture, put one other image down the right hand side (probably of people on the bridge), then a horizontal row of three just above the External Links section. -- Solipsist 3 July 2005 12:04 (UTC)

Ownership

[edit]

Bridge House Estates is the actual owner of the bridge, and fund all repairs and maintenance - no 'ratepayers money' is used for this. There is a real and legal difference between the trust and its trustee, although the Corporation of London has sometimes blurred the boundary in its representations.

How quickly was it shut?

[edit]

Shortly after it opened, on the same day, the bridge was closed to the public. Ronstew (talk) 17:12, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Images of the bridge

[edit]

I have five images of the Millennium bridge which you may wish to consider for this page. At present, none of them are suitably licensed for Wikipedia nor Wikimedia. If you want one or more of these images for this page, let me know on my talk page --Senra (talk) 22:38, 26 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

In the Media

[edit]

Sentence #1: "...the Millennium Bridge replaces the Brockdale Bridge...."

Sentence #2: "The Millennium Bridge does not, however, replace the Brockdale Bridge...."

If anyone knows how this should read, please revise!Jedwards01 (talk) 05:06, 10 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Black Mirror

[edit]

The bridge appears in an episode of Charlie Brookers Black Mirror (Channel 4) where a member of the royal family is left on it after being kidnapped. This could be added to the pop culture section but I don't have a good enough reference for it. Javindo (talk) 21:38, 1 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Wobbly or bendy?

[edit]

I thought (and various Google results when searching 'bendy bridge london' support me) that this was colloquially known as the bendy brideAdagio67 (talk) 15:45, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

when it first opened the name was used, but it's not something that you'd hear used nowadays, it's not been 'bendy' for 15 years... Paulbrock (talk) 13:43, 27 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

If we can find a source for it, we should note that it played a notable role in the premier episode of the series The Black Mirror. SecretName101 (talk) 03:57, 14 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
