No mention of the Kim dynasty in DPRK? SigPig2 (talk)

Can we add an external links section to include this slideshow about brothers in politics, both past and present? http://www.tnr.com/slideshow/75307/slideshow-brothers-politics Fishman0 (talk) 18:35, 6 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

For the user who asked for proof that Dacko and Bokassa were related http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/ news/2003/11/22/db2203.xml Academic Challenger 09:11, 14 Dec 2003 (UTC)Academic Challenger Sorry, looks like you need to register for the whole article. However, another point is that the Wikipedia article David Dacko says Bokassa is his cousin.

The listing of the Nehru-Gandhi family under the India bullet, want accurate previously. This is one of the longest lineages in the article, and may cause a bit of confusion. I have given the mutual relationship in paranthesis next to the names. Can somebody it (if it is not already)? chance 05:46, Dec 24, 2003 (UTC)

Can we have some evidence that Bob Carr (son of a Sydney Irish-Catholic tram-driver) is related to Alexander Downer (son of the South Australian Protestant aristocracy)? Adam 13:07, 20 Feb 2004 (UTC)

Apparently, it looks like a bit of a windup by an anon on the Alexander Downer page. I've removed the "fact" for now, but you never know... a diehard Liberal and a Labor premier being somehow related... ;) Dysprosia 10:38, 21 Feb 2004 (UTC)
Okay, I'll go with your removal of the Carr link from the Downer family for now. I will continue to find a source to prove (or disprove) the claim one way or the other. Truth often IS stranger than fiction - in the United Kingdom, for example, it is NOT uncommon to find relatives at opposite ends of the political spectrum (e.g. look what happened to the children of David Lloyd-George), and in the United States, George W. Bush is actually a distant cousin of his opponent in the 2000 election, Al Gore, according to Burke's Peerage. In the real world, things like that do happen. Still, in the absence of proof, an assertion should not be stated. Unless and until I can find some authoritative source to link Bob Carr and Alexander Downer, I will keep the link off the page. If I do find such a source, I will document it. Davidcannon 10:35, 1 Mar 2004 (UTC)

I notice somebody has removed Franklin Pierce from the BUSH family. I have restored the link; I read (in Time Magazine, I think) that Bush's mother Barbara is a descendent of Pierce's. I will look for further documentation. In my opinion, it is VERY relevant information, as it shows how political power can follow bloodlines even in a democratic republic, over very long periods of time.Davidcannon 10:35, 1 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Hi David -- that was me -- the reason is that most of the presidents are distantly related. I'm also an amateur genealogist, and for example my ex-wife is distantly related to Abraham Lincoln (3rd cousins 6 times removed)as well as a few others (generally somewhere between 3rd and 6th cousins. It has been calculated that 12% of all Americans are direct descendants of one of the passengers on the Mayflower. You can check www.ancestry.com and www.rootsweb.com for more info, but I'd actually say unless Franklin Pierce were Barabara Pierce Bush's direct ancestor, it isn't that significant. Thanks, BCorr ¤ Брайен 13:27, Mar 1, 2004 (UTC)
I agree with most of what you say. I gathered from Time that Barbara Bush is a direct descendent of Franklin Pierce, but that could be an error. I will do some more research into that topic and see what comes up-) Thank you so much for replying to my post. Davidcannon 14:10, 1 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Also, I have corrected Kathleen Kennedy Townsend's info - she was only Lieutenant Governor of Md.; her bid for the governorship in 2002 was unsuccessful. Davidcannon 10:35, 1 Mar 2004 (UTC)

France/Mauritania

[edit]

Does anyone have a SOURCE for the assertion that Moktar Ould Daddah, the former president of Mauritania, is related to Charles de Gaulle, the former president of France? I'm not being skeptical, I just want a fairly reputable source. Also, if we could know the exact nature of the relationship (e.g. son-in-law, brother-in-law, etc) that would be helpful. Davidcannon 11:48, 24 Mar 2004 (UTC)

See [1]. Daddah married Charles de Gaulle's daughter. --Sesel 16:35, 24 Mar 2004 (UTC)

  • Thanks for the link. I may use the info there as the basis of an article for Wikipedia. Davidcannon 02:11, 25 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Nicaragua

[edit]

I am trying to find out if the presidents named "Chamorro" from Nicaragua are related. I read in a bio of Pedro Joaquín Chamorro that he was "descended from a long line of statesmen" or something like that. Any relation to Fruto Chamorro, Emiliano Chamorro Vargas or others? --Sesel 05:41, 23 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]
