"Several other distributional point count valuations are in use, which may assign point values to long suits instead of or in addition to short suits."
Here is an example of such a system:
The High Card Points have the same values as mentioned in the article: High Card Points (HCP) = A : 4 points K : 3 points Q : 2 points J : 1 point
But the distributional points are awarded based on length: Length Points (LP) = 5 card suit : 1 point 6 card suit : 2 points 7 card suit : 3 points 8 card suit : 4 points
HCP + LP = Hand value

[edit]This is a good article but I believe a better article would contain all methods of hand evaluation. I have started such an article and would appreciate comment on the basic idea and on the detail, although please bear in mind that this is very much work in progress. My intention is to take the best from existing articles like point count and high-card point and use them in Hand evaluationAbtract 06:38, 9 May 2006 (UTC) Having constructed a new article Hand evaluation covering a much wider spectrum of information, I will be redirecting fron this page roundabout 1 June. If anyone thinks this is presumptious please tell me. I hope this is the right way to do such things. Abtract 00:25, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
- I like your new article very much. I am concerned about a redirect, however, because a number of articles link here to define the term "point". (See, for example, Drury convention.) Perhaps this article should be trimmed down to just a general definition of point count and a link to your new article for the details. Ray Spalding 01:23, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
- That's not in line with common Wikipedia style. We should either have:
- This article fully merged to Hand evaluation and redirected, or
- Keep (& expand it), summarize it briefly in Hand evaluation and put a {{main|Point count}} in the heading there.
- (P.S. Option 1 would be nicer if stuff like #REDIRECT[[Hand evaluation#Point count]]) worked. It doesn't though). Duja 06:40, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
