I suppose you don't mean things like high- and lowlands ... I personally would divide Europe into the usual parts

Western (Great Britain, Ireland, France, Monaco, the Benelux countries (Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg))
Northern (Scandinavia (Norway, Sweden, Finland), Denmark, Iceland)
Central (Germany, the Alpine countries (Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, Slovenia), and the former Eastern block countries evolving from Austria-Hungary (Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary))
Eastern (former Soviet Union countries that are in Europe except for the Baltic states (the European part of Russia, Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus))
Southern (Apennine peninsula (Italy, San Marino, Vatican), Pyrenean peninsula (Spain, Portugal, Andorra), Malta)
Southeastern (Balkan peninsula (Croatia, Bosnia, Serbia and Montenegro, Romania, Albania, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Greece, and a tiny bit of Turkey), Cyprus)
Northeastern (the Baltic countries (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania))

I don't think there absolutely has to be a region to classify more than one country into. France is merely in Western Europe, I should say. One could endeavour a bit and call it an 'Atlantic-bordering' country if there was need. Also, there isn't one single way of classification; people tend to disagree on such issues, especially when dealing with more-than-just-geographic definitions. What do you need this for?
