I see you got your login without problems. Well, Welcome to Wikipedia! I hope you like the place and decide to stay! If you ever need editing help visit Wikipedia:How does one edit a page or how to format them visit our manual of style. Experiment at The Sandbox. If you need pointers on how we title pages visit Wikipedia:Naming conventions. If you have any other questions about the project then check out Wikipedia:Help and Wikipedia:FAQ, plus if you can't find your answer there, check The Village pump or The Reference Desk. Wikipedia:Utilities is also very useful. Happy editing -- Chris 73 Talk 07:44, Jan 1, 2005 (UTC)
Welcome, and don't forget to log on before you edit. That's not a rule, but it lets you sign your talk contributions with four tildes (~~~~), and also makes your "My contributions" list (which others can see by clicking "User contributions" while viewing your User: or User talk: page) reflect what you've done here. IMO you're started building a good rep by your response to the VfD: you grasped your mistake & helped clean up after yourself, besides making it clear that vanity was not the issue. (If you want to claim the attribution of your unsigned work, that can often be arranged; i'll find out the details if you don't locate an expert on that.)
(BTW, lest you feel bad about the mistake, my understanding is that the Namespace system was established specifically so that user pages would stop being confused with bio articles: now John Smith is clearly differentiated from User:John Smith, but nobody realized at the start that that was worth doing. So you weren't the only one who didn't realize what a good idea that differentiation was. [smile]) So thanks, and again welcome, and i also hope you come to feel at home here. I was in your position about 15 months ago, and have watched & done my small part while this project went from 1000th-ranked Alexa site to 200th. Perhaps you'll find it as compelling as i have.
