Talk:Samadhi meditation
delete! this seems to be nothing but advertising for "New Age" cults.
- I feel merger shall be ok, but I will give my full comments in a day or two after studying the position.--Bhadani 02:47, 24 May 2005 (UTC)
I also think "samadhi meditation" is new age cult mumbo-jumbo that mixes concepts from overall, e.g. meditation=deep concentration? i beg your pardon.
- The nonsense of "samadhi meditation" must not be encouraged. I am aware of hundreds of techniques of meditation and I'm aware of many types of "samadhi", but I'm not aware of any "Samadhi meditation". It is taken as granted that the aim of every meditation in the world is to achieve "samadhi". Samadhi refers to some higher states of consciousness(like ecstasy), while the word meditation is used in two ways:
1.It refers to some spiritual techniques. 2.It refers to a meditative quality of mind, this meditative quality may or maynot be the result of following meditation techniques.
Samadhi might be achieved by following meditation techniques or it can be attained spontaneosly.
As someone has said already "meditation=deep concentration" is also nonsense, it gives any layperson all kinds of wrong ideas about meditation. This is a general msconception about meditation and has created so much problem that Masters(of meditation) have to first recondition all newbies at the very start of any meditation course by clarifying that meditation is not concentration.
