The Town of Billerica,Ma originally named Shawshin by the Native American settlers,is located at 42.33 N - 71.16 W. This historic and picturesque "New England Town",town was settled in 1637 and incorporated in 1655, it is located in Middlesex County, 18 N.W.of Boston, Ma. The land area of Billerica is 27.8 sq. miles. Several lakes and two major rivers run through the town, the historic Concord River and the Shawsheen River. The oldest homestead in the town is the Manning House, built in 1655 but the town is home to many 17th, 18th century homes. One of those homes is the Asa Pollard house which was the birthplace and home of Thomas Pollard who was the first soldier to die at the battle of Bunker Hill. The song "Yankee Doodle" was written to honor Revolutionary soldier and Billerica resident Thomas Ditson who was captured by the British, tarred and feathered and sent back from whenst he came. The song and the title "Yankee Doddle Town" has been adopted by the town as their theme song. Billerica is the location of the oldest canal in the United States, The Middlesex Canal, circa 1793 - 1853 which was used to transport goods to and from Lowell, Ma from Boston and points in between. Billerica also has a Native American burial site dating back to 1000 B.C.. Billerica uses a Town Manager and Town Meeting form of government. Although Billerica is predominently a rural bedroom community it has also become a hub of "high tech" industry and development.

I revised the text above within the article but then noticed that there was another article on Billerica, Massachusetts and therefore moved most of the content there and converted the article into a disambiguation page.
