Theres another album...
[edit]It's mostly full of covers. Album Name: Broken Little Words... Actually very good. i thought someone ought to put that up.
Wthoang (talk) 01:55, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
There is also an album called The Theft of Octo[1]. It doesn't show at Keane's official website though

- The Theft of Octo is likely fanmade. -- I need a name (talk) 19:43, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
In fact, both those albums are unofficial (and illegal!!) fan made albums. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.195.219.45 (talk) 21:15, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
Removed what appeared to be original research
[edit]Just removed this from "Criticisms": "The claim that Keane is/was imitating Coldplay is false, due to Coldplay opening up for Keane during the early years of their careers. In Keane's film "Strangers", they show footage of Keane performing a concert with Coldplay as the opening act." I removed it for a couple of reasons. Mainly because it appears to be original research (though if it can be cited then put it back in). Also because it's not logical: just because Coldplay opened for Keane doesn't necessarily mean that Keane didn't imitate Coldplay. I'm not saying that Keane imitated Coldplay, just that the logic used in the above doesn't make sense. In any case, it's unlikely that Keane and Coldplay didn't influence each other's styles, given that they played together. People worry too much about their favourite bands being accused of being unoriginal and it's unrealistic; anyone who's played music knows that you can't help but be influenced by musicians that you play with. Beanrobot (talk) 20:41, 26 August 2008 (UTC)
Criticism
[edit]How the hell are this band "Alternative " rock if groups like Keane and Coldplay or Oasis are alternative Who is NOT alternative - the whole (I should imagine cluelessly invented American) term is completely meaningless! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.155.96.108 (talk) 07:01, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
It gets worse someones called them "New Wave" (does that person have any idea about popular music at all). Has anyone used that term about a British band since about 1979. Unbelievable. I've removed that to stop the whole article becoming a laughing-stock. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.155.96.108 (talk) 07:04, 22 May 2012 (UTC)
Although I'm not a Keane fan, I really wonder why quoting Noel Gallagher (Oasis)
should be of any relevance, since he mucked about any band apart from Oasis?
I suggest that this should be removed. 85.159.97.5 (talk) 14:37, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, but it shows the feuds that some bands have. It's handy to know that the "three twats" have just knocked Oasis off the top of the album charts... Dave (talk) 20:51, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
Jesse Quin - member or not?
[edit]The linear notes of their Perfect Symmetry album credit Jesse Quin as being an official member of Keane, which is why I'd added him to the members list at the top of the page (before being removed). Unless anyone can prove otherwise, I believe that he should be added to that list. Beanochris (talk) 20:53, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
- Check the band's biography at their page, just renewed this week. Three members only. Also, the booklet on the album shows sculptures of Tim, Tom and Richard, but not Jesse's.--Fluence (talk) 03:09, 8 November 2008 (UTC)
Opinionated
[edit]This article seems slightly favoring toward Keane. Perhaps the tone should be more objective. 67.161.157.78 (talk) 03:34, 19 October 2008 (UTC)High School Jounrlaist
Agreed. Many of the article's sections are biased and are in need of revision, especially the 'Criticism' section.125.25.249.74 (talk) 17:42, 11 March 2009 (UTC)
No, I do not believe so. Please explain how you feel this way. I am a Keane fan, but I don't see how this is anything but objective. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.255.162.6 (talk) 12:27, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
- It's not just this article - every Keane article I've seen is overly descriptive, features POV editing and a severve lack of sources. Also, the articles (specifically the album articles) do not feature a reception section, which is common thread with every other Album article.
- This article in particular needs to be stripped of POV sentences and anything that does not have a source - --A Chain of Flowers (talk) 15:39, 16 October 2009 (UTC)
- Then go an add a reference for every word in the article. Half of the page will be a list of references. --Fluence (talk) 04:27, 2 November 2009 (UTC)

Genre-Piano Rock
[edit]Is Keane piano rock or alternative??? Steed Asprey - 171 (talk) 09:30, 21 February 2010 (UTC)
I'd say piano rock. Please remember that these article talk pages are for discussing improvements to the article, not about its subject in general. Chevymontecarlo. 09:49, 14 March 2010 (UTC)
Shouldn't a piano rock page be created just as it is in other wikipedia pages (eg france, spain...)?
I Improved wrapping per WP:NOWRAP#{{nowrap begin}} + {{·w}} + {{nowrap end}} in the Singles cell, so that wrapping will work in all browsers and that cell contents would not occasionally overlap the cell border. -Mardus (talk) 07:04, 14 December 2010 (UTC)
New Video Release
[edit]There is a new release, or actually four, from the early Keane. It surprises me that someone took off "Their original line-up included founder and guitarist Dominic Scott, who left in 2001." as Dominic Scott was the founder and the band really wants to forget that. Sometimes it is a shame to watch history re-written.
The releases are available at Amazon US and UK as well as VideoSeconds.com Do I put the URLS for Amazons or online stores?
The label releasing them is here: Dominic Scott's Keane Band Bull and Gate Concerts and UK Collector Series - Keane Farewell to Dominic Scott Live Aug 9, 2001
I dont know how to edit or if this is worthy of this entry. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.55.20.77 (talk) 20:57, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
Where are the Album Reviews?
[edit]None of the album pages have reviews. I went through the history and it looks as if the reviews were once a part of the pages, but were buried due to a user who disagreed with their content. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.148.112.2 (talk) 15:55, 4 March 2011 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is supposed to have a NPOV. Adding reviews by critics pretty much contradicts that. I've never understood why is that needed. One looks for information about the album's release, the album's contents and maybe what it means to the artist, not what a bunch of so-called "experts" think about it.--Fluence (talk) 04:52, 8 May 2011 (UTC)
Adding reviews by critics does not contradict the NPOV. Emphasizing positive information about an album and totally excluding any criticism of the album is a contradiction of NPOV. For example, after reading Hopes and Fears, I would have thought that the album rivaled OK Computer or Definitely Maybe as greatest British album ever, when in reality, according to Metacritic, the reception was a little more mixed. A more NPOV article would include a paragraph that featured positive reviews and a paragraph that featured negative reviews and then a third paragraph that talks about the awards the album received. A great article that uses this technique is Kid A. If this technique was used in a featured article, then adding reviews by critics does not contradict NPOV. Thomsonmg2000 (talk) 04:05, 13 May 2011 (UTC)
This is one of the worst articles I've had the displeasure of reading. The creator of the article makes statements such as "The album won multiple awards and was the second best-selling British album of the year." while providing no references.
Also where is a summary of record sales/single charting and critics? 74.198.9.16 (talk) 03:31, 4 February 2012 (UTC)

[edit]Is fantastic. It visualises the data really well, it's clear, it avoids unnecessary ink. Generally, bravo! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.133.142.4 (talk) 12:19, 21 February 2012 (UTC)
Members 1995-1997?
[edit]In the list of members it says that Tim Rice-Oxley and Richard Hughes have been members since 1997, but in the timeline just below it says they were in the band already in 1995. I stumbled into this band just a couple of days ago, so I have no earlier knowledge with which to deem these data. But someone else could probably easy sort out this indifference! 92.32.219.55 (talk) 03:09, 4 February 2013 (UTC)
Keane is or Keane are?
[edit]Wikipedia's own page on BrE vs. AmE states the following: In British English (BrE), collective nouns can take either singular (formal agreement) or plural (notional agreement) verb forms, according to whether the emphasis is on the body as a whole or on the individual members respectively; compare a committee was appointed with the committee were unable to agree.[14][15] Compare also the following lines of Elvis Costello's song "Oliver's Army": Oliver's Army is here to stay / Oliver's Army are on their way . This would suggest that in BrE, the usage should be "Keane is" rather than "Keane are," as the focus is clearly on the band and not the members of the band ("Keane is an English rock band from Battle, East Sussex, formed in 1995"). Do tell if you disagree with this. -- JGenz (talk) 17:33, 30 March 2015 (UTC)
- Article uses British English. Also, bands are plural in the UK. If you look at articles of various bands and groups that are from the UK, they use "are" instead of "is". In other cases, "were" instead of "was". BTW, did you read the note? It's there for a reason. TheOnlyOne12 (talk) 16:05, 6 April 2015 (UTC)

[edit]Is the band's name pronounced like "keen" or like "cane"? The article should specify, since the surname Kean (and therefore presumably Keane as well) may be pronounced either way. —38.49.92.241 (talk) 05:30, 4 November 2023 (UTC)
